Deaf Education Professor Reaches Her Fundraising Finish Line

Stephanie Gardiner-Walsh is a tremendous advocate for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. She is an accomplished professor in Deaf Education at Illinois State University, and is deeply involved with HLAA and Sertoma Camp for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Children.

Stephanie herself has hearing loss, which gives her a firm grasp of the challenges that the Hard of Hearing face. Her belief in access to hearing aids for all is what led her to join the Hearing Charities of America Board and immediately support the efforts of the Hearing Aid Project. Committed to helping those in need, she launched a creative personal fundraising page, which can be viewed here.

As an avid runner, Stephanie combined her fundraising efforts with a two day relay run called Ragnar that took place from Chattanooga to Nashville, Tennessee. She asked individuals to donate a $1 a mile for every leg of the race, and within a few days she reached her $500 goal! Her gift has changed someone’s life forever by providing them with a hearing aid through the Hearing Aid Project.
